Fast Moving Malibu Fire

A wildfire that broke out in southern California Sunday forced evacuations of Malibu Colony and Pepperdine University, authorities said Sunday morning. The blaze has consumed at an estimated 400-acres, Los Angeles County Fire Department reported at 7:45am this morning. Prior official reports estimated the blaze had taken 100 and 50-acres.
Winds are whipping the blaze into a serious threat with about 40 engine companies responding, said Los Angeles County Fire Department reports.

Folks at Pepperdine University reported smelling smoke as early as midnight last night. Currently Smoke is reported smelled as far away as Topanga.

Malibu colony is a beachfront neighborhood built in the 1930s. The threat today of the densely built stretch of beachfront homes is a grim reminder of last January’s fire along Malibu Road that within a very brief period of time consumed homes and acreage with a ferocious attitude. That fire was beat back by the fire department within a few hours. That fire’s scars are still embedded on the land of the Bluffs Park area.
