Keyword Elite - A Keyword Research Tool Review
Posted by Edge on June 9th, 2007 filed in Makin' Money!, Sponsored Reviews
I’ve done a lot of keyword research for many different reasons. I’ve been the route of using numerous free online tools along with spreadsheets, spending hours and hours manually trying to determine things like search:result ratios (a comparison of how many searches there are for a keyword and how manyweb pages are serving that keyword)
I came across Brad Callen’s keyword research tool, Keyword Elite. After watching a few videos online, I decided to give it a go. Granted, the $176 caused me to do a lot of research before purchasing, butI figured the hours of manual keyword research it would save me would soon make it pay for itself.
Let’s walk through a session. I’m looking for a good niche (an underserved market) that I might take advantage of and market to. Here is the screen Keyword Elite first opens to:

Keyword Elite opens to the first of 5 tools it has available. The first thing I want to do is create a large list of keywords. Let’s see what we come up with for the word “car”. I’ll enter “car” into step number 2. I want about 1000 keywords fairly quickly, so I’ll check the box by Ask to grab those words from Ask.com. Then I’ll hit OK.
Wow….4 minutes later, I have 1010 keyword phrases related to “car”.

Now, there’s a lot we could do here. For example, we could filter out phrases with the word “free” in them. We could add brackets or quotes around all the phrases. Or, we could add a word to either the beginning or end of each phrase (like a State name…hint, hint). You would basically copy and paste the phrases to notepad after each action. Let’s see if I add each State’s name to each keyword, I’ve quickly got 50,000 word list!
We’ll leave that for another project. What we’ll do now is is copy the keyword list and select the move keywords to Project 2 option.

Now we’re at the “Analyze Pay Per Click” tool. I’ve selected Google and Exact Match to make this analysis as quick as possible. This is the hard part…..waiting. It’ll take around an hour for Keyword Elite to process this list in this step. But wait’ll you see what it’s grabbing for you:

I realize the screenshot is hard to read, but basically it shows the term “car insurance” as being the most searched term of the group. Also, its R/S ration is a low 38 which means there are not a lot of websites serving this huge search load, which makes it a good market to get into. Wow, Keyword Elite also tells us that the top 3 Google Adwords positions are paying $29-30 for a click.
That tells me there’s a huge market for car insurance, and advertisers are willing to pay a lot to get visitors to their site. So, what I’d probably do with the term is write an article about car insurance and put some Google Adsence code on the page. Google will look at the content in the article and serve up those $30 per click ads. If someone reading my article clicks on one of those ads, I’ll make $5-7 for that one click. Neat, huh?
Looking a little further down the list, I see that “kelly blue book” has an R/S ratio of 5. That is low. That’s a large underserved market. Also, advertisers are only paying $.14 -.21 per click for the top 3 advertising spaces on google. So, I know I can buy fairly cheap clicks to my new kelly blue book website where I’ll offer products related to used car sales.
Keyword Elite provides 3 more tools. Project 3 searches Keyword Elite’s massive keyword list and makes one big keyword list for you. I entered “car” and withing a minute had over 2 million ketword phrases related to “car”.
Project 4 allows you to analyse keyword competition. You can enter a keyword, have Keyword Elite look atGoogle’s top 5 advertisers and tellyou how well their pages are optimized for that search term. This is a good tool to use if you’ve found some cheap keywords to bid on and want to see if you can beat the competition with search engine optimization.
Finally, the most fun, Project 5 allows you to actually spy on your competition! It actually works over time analyzing which keywords they are using. If a keyword drops from the list, yu know it isn’t a profitable keyword. If they keep one for a long time, you know it’s a moneymaker.
To be honest, it took me 2 days to recoup the $176 I paid for this software. I’ve been making money since! The support is unbelievable. I get notices for upgrades about twice a week. These are usually not bug fixes, but reaction to changes in the search engines.
I have to admit, Brad’s sales page looks kinda spammy, but Keyword Elite will make you money!! Also, Brad has a piece of softwae called SEO Elite, which has a similar appearance to Keyword Elite, but specialises in helping you achieve search engine rankings. I haven’t done it yet, but if I ever fine a need to do some search engine optimization, I’l be giving SEO Elite a try!
