Congress Lounges While Our Country Faces Increasing Dangers

Welcome in the 110th Congress. The “reform” Congress. It’s historical, some cry, as the House of Representatives elects the first female Speaker of the House. My comment to a liberal friend soon after her appointment was something along the lines of,”Wow…talk about fodder for the late night talk shows.” His comment was something like,”This is a historical moment in history.” OK, comrade!

Speaker Pelosi promised a lightening legislative program for the first 100 days. That then became 100 days. Still no legislative accomplishments! The House is stuck on the “end the war” rhetoric. Speaker Pelosi and the liberals have squandered months on a troop funding bill knowing full well it would be vetoed by the President, which he did. If they had listened and had given up on tying the bill to a definitive troop pullout date from Iraq, it may have gotten signage.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has been doing his part to support Pelosi’s anti-war/anti-Bush efforts. Reid has stated that the war in Iraq is lost. Now it’s rumored that when Reid heard of the attempted terror attack on Fort Dix, he demanded an immediate withdrawal of all troops from the fort.

The one other important item Congress has gotten into and continues to push is the non-issue of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales firing of some U.S. district attorneys. It was perfectly legal, but the screeching continues.

Congress…there are more critical issues before us!

Remember in 1973 when the Arab Nations shut down shipments of all oil for 2 weeks? Maybe you’re too young to remember, but I certainly do. Gas stations running out of gas, long lines at the stations that had gas and a sick feeling in my gut that I wouldn’t be able to get to work.

Just imagine what would happen if the Arabs cut us off again, but this time for a couple of months. The effect would be devastating. Our military’s ability to protect us would become questionable.

We haven’t built an oil refinery in 30 years. And Congress concentrates all its time basically trying to discredit the President. That’s just sad!

Then there’s immigration. This is a serious problem. So Congress tries to quickly throw together an amnesty bill and slip it through. This is a serious enough issue that before a bill draft was even started, some thorough conversation should have been had with the American people.

Why do Democrats want to see this amnesty bill passed? Well, it will greatly increase their constituency. It’s all about political power… screw us!

I hate to sound like a broken record, but let’s work on securing the borders first! We can let a guy with TB fly into the country, potentially infecting others on the plane. Imagine what else could be flown into the country! Let’s fix this first.
