Immigration Reform - Get Your Green Cards Here

In a desperate move to actually get something done, Congress and the President are poised to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill that is doomed to failure. This Congress has pretty much accomplished nothing, so it’s politically expedient now to pass something. Whatever sense of accomplishment they may get from this will soon fade because so much of the legislation is based on fantasy.

The Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) would have the job of administering these reforms. CIS can’t do its job now! They lack funding and suffer in the area of management. Tell me this….would there be an illegal immigration problem if CIS were able to perform its current responsibilities? Giving this limping organization a huge increase in responsibilities simply makes no sense!

So, let’s assume CIS gets more funding, what will they do with it? They have indicated they would need to bring in private contractors to handle the increased workload! Hmmm….I’m thinking a fairly recent case of this….airport security. Remember that mess? Basically the same situation would play here. Hire quickly, they’ll be poorly trained, certainly low-bid and probably more prone to bribery that regular government employees. The result?

These new contractors will be overwhelmed by the potential millions of applications to be processed. The result will be that the applicant’s review will see less and less scrutiny. The truth is, there will be less and less time to verify the authenticity of the information the applicant has provided. Contractors will be forced to trust the applicants. Sure, there will be databases that names can be checked against, but that may become so cumbersome that some slip ups will occur.

There seems to be an assumption that illegal aliens won’t lie because they’re being offered a road to citizenship. Do you actually think that an illegal who has gone through the trouble of procuring false identification is going to suddenly want to volunteer true information to us? Get real. Truth is, these false identifications (names) will be run through the databases and come up clean.

It’ll all come down to mal-trained contractors increasingly bypassing security checks in order to handle an increasingly overwhelming case load. Shame on your “feel good” legislation!

Millions of immigrants have applied legally, followed our rules, taken the time and effort to fulfill the requirements and finally been granted citizenship in this country. To reward illegals with a chance to bypass what so many legal immigrants have proudly obtained is a slap in the face of the immigrants who have made our country great. We currently have a government bent on appeasing criminals; putting them at the head of the line, in front of those who have worked so hard to proudly call themselves United States citizens! This is so unfair!!

So, Congess….it’s time to slow down. Toss out the giddiness of accomplishing something for the sake of accomplishing something. Take a step back and first figure out how to enforce the laws you’ve made before making new ones. I think that’ll make everyone a bit happier. And….you will have actually accomplished something.
